Star Wars: Predators
Hutt Space is an autonomous region of the galaxy on the border between the Mid Rim and the Outer Rim Territories, near the entrance to Wild Space. It encompasses the Si’Klaata Cluster, and borders the Tion Hegemony. Hutt Space is named for the Hutt species, who dominated the region; in the time of the Galactic Republic it was ruled by the Hutt Clan. Reasonable estimates place the number of inhabited world’s in the sector between a few hundred to a thousand.
During the rule of the Galactic Empire, portions of Hutt Space were reorganized into various sectors governed by Moffs, although for the most part their authority is weak at best and non-existent at worst. Since the Hutt Kajidics generate a considerable amount of income through taxation, Hutt Space was largely left alone by the Empire (although some manufacturing facilities and minor bases were established.
The Empire were not afraid to use their military prowess as a bargaining chip to exert some control over the region. The most recent example of this was Admiral Rathbone’s attempt at bringing the Hutts to heel which resulted in the Battle of Nar Shaddar. This was a decisive military defeat for the Empire, who’s fleet was repealed by the Hutts (in no small part thanks to the actions of Predator Squadron and the Rebel Alliance, although their contributions are not mentioned in official statements).
