Subject: Travis Shrike
Greetings Setenna Hase, this is Blue Moon. You may have noticed that we (Alliance Intelligence) have taken greater precautions, I apologise for the added security measures but the circumstances are necessary, it will make sense in the official brief.
To summarise things, we have made extensive background checks on Travis Shrike, the Mandalorian you encountered during a Black Operation− One standard month ago. You say he turned up out of nowhere, when the said Mandalorian intervened at a time when the Operation was compromised. We are pleased that the Mandalorian did not actively engage Alliance Forces and opted to- as you say “cut down”- Imperial forces. You offered him a job the Mandalorian didn’t refuse, but didn’t take the Oath.
This raised concerns, especially since as you are aware that Imperial forces have wormed their way into Alliance Personal, hence explaining Command’s reluctance to accept the Mandalorian as a new applicant.
This is where I come in, as Command wanted background checks on Travis. Personally, this job would have been easier if Travis was more co-operative, but after exploring Mandalore I suspect that this is the new Mandalorian temperament since Imperial occupation. Suffice to say the old Schism from the Clone Wars is ebbing away and a lot of glaring eyes meet you if you claim to be a part of the Imperial Navy. Maybe this is because of the new Academy set up by Imperial’s and the Mandalorian’s either don’t want any more violence on their planet. Or perhaps the people there are starting to think Death Watch was right all along.
Anyway, I did some digging on Travis and I have discovered a reason for Shrike’s silence, and the language that has Intelligence scratching their heads.
First, Shrike isn’t just Travis’ surname but it also appears to be a Clan name. The Shrikes are Mercenaries they tend to travel the galaxy looking for jobs. They’ve branched out from the run of the mill Mercenaries, they don’t just do security, they’ve done deliveries, arms deals, procured a lot of sensitive information and they always seem to know where their members are. It made no sense how Travis managed to get messages from outside the Lockdown until now, his sister is a genius and tech marvel in hacking, we suspect she’s got a connection in the Alliance system. The techs are trying to scrub it, they don’t know how she got in, but we suspect that Travis’ private message may have tipped her off.
Just a personal note: but the messages were in Old Mandalorian. It’s Thousands of years old, used when the Republic was still young. You have NO idea how aggravating it was finding a Scholar who knew that.
Since no information has been leaked or taken, we are convinced that the Clan are currently watching Travis’ movements. Apparently, rumour has it that the Clan actively encourage you to find prestige (or honour) and judging by Travis’ actions we are convinced he’s seeking it out by fighting against challenges, and given the Empire’s resources, it is quite a tempting one. (It’s that, or maybe this is outrage for the Academy on Mandalore. My money’s on the Former.)
I presented these findings to the Brass, they’re granted Travis clearance to enroll in Predator Squadron, (Personally, I think they’re trying to appease his sister.) as you’re the only Squad that want him. Officially, he will have the same rank as the other members. Unofficially, he’s off the books. Command has asked you to use discretion with Travis when handing out sensitive information. But since you already have an Imperial Stormtrooper in your midst (I can’t believe I’m writing this…) they will allow you to use your judgment.
Travis will now be dispatched from undisclosed location, which now has to be decommissioned due to a security breach by a certain sister… to your location.
Personally Setenna, I hope this gamble of yours pays off. Predator Squadron has collected quite the band of misfits and it’s already got a reputation, I don’t envy the headache they’re going to give you.
END OF MESSAGE…
Real name: Unknown
Affiliation: Travis’ Sister
From what we’ve been able to tell, the hacker is codenamed: Oracle. Knowledge about her is limited, all we know for certain is that she’s Travis’ sister. Her hacking expertise are phenomenal, we can’t tell what methods she’s using or how she’s able to clear her tracks so well.
Real name: Unknown
Affiliation: The Head of the Clan
Everyone we ask about the Shrikes always seems to reference a man called Leo, we’re uncertain who he is; records show that the name is either a Code or nickname. We are positive that he is the Head of the Clan. Unfortunately, we are unable to get a picture or description of him. It’s likely that Leo rarely shows himself, and relies on others to carry out the Clan’s Mercenary affairs.
Travis died during the Battle of Xorrn. As the Imperial forces swarmed into the landing shafts of Foundry Four, Travis got surrounded. Severely wounded – blinded – by a grenade form an AT-ST, Travis made the decision to manually detach the landing platform. He sent it plummeting into the molten flow below, killing dozens of Stormtroopers and doing significant damage to the Empire’s ability to overwhelm the Foundry’s defences during that stage of the battle. He is remembered by a simple wooden marker placed above Landing Shaft Besh, engraved with his name. Tobin Stryder acquired Travis’s cracked and scorched helmet as a memento of his fallen comrade.
